In 1999 there was a chance meeting of two unlikely souls in the desert of Tucson, Arizona that turned into a lifetime of making music together. They traversed the country to the northwest of Portland, Oregon and then to New York City. Fast forward to today and they are on either side of the globe, Brooklyn and Tokyo, and as prolific as they’ve ever been.
Let’s rewind to 2007 when they officially formed their wedding band, New York Ceremony Music. They built a repertoire of coveted covers, arranged them on their cello and guitar and started to shape their first release which was in 2013, volumes 1-8 of The Rotary Sessions. But they took a little turn just before in 2012 when they were asked to play a weekly residency at the Bellwether in Williamsburg, formerly the iconic Royal Oak.
Playing this venue didn’t feel right as New York Ceremony Music so they became Brooklyn String Duo and later in 2013 released their 100 songs on iTunes as Brooklyn String Duo. Those recordings known as The Rotary Sessions were solely distributed to iTunes and purposefully left out the streamers of the time. They released their subsequent recordings as New York Ceremony Music until today when they are back to their roots, writing original instrumentals on their cello and guitar as Brooklyn String Duo.
